IIT RESEARCHERS DEVELOP BIO-SENSORS TO DETECT KIDNEY DISORDERS
- IIT Mumbai & Indore have jointly developed a biosensor which detects kidney disorders in about 8 minutes.
- It works by measuring PH & Urea concentration by encapsulating an enzyme urease and molecule FITC-dextran in alginate microspheres.
- Current methods aim at 2 tests which has embedded accuracy problems due to presence of Calcium, Chloride, Potassium & Sodium.
- The biosensor technology is better as it is safe & non toxic to handle. Its accuracy is more than 97%. Also it is able to detect even the lowest of Urea concentrations.
